Red-hot Nigeria striker Obafemi Martins is set to sign a new improved two-year contract extension with MLS side Seattle Sounders worth $12m, africanfootball.comreports.
The contract of the former Levante forward will expire at the end of the year, Sounders striker Obafemi Martins will likely be staying in Seattle with a deal worth $6m a year, which is more than double his current wage, according to nbcsports.com.
The increase in wage will make the Arsenal nightmare the eighth highest paid designated player from the ninth-highest designated Player he is at present.
He is enjoying himself in the MLS, with 13 league goals so far and five regular season matches still to go.
He’s only scored double-digit league goals one other time in his career, with Newcastle in the 2006/07 season when he bagged 11.
Martins has wanted to stay in Seattle for a while now, not-so-subtly campaigning for a new deal since the summer.
Martins has been invaluable to his club this year in a number of ways, as he and Robbie Keane are the only MLS players in the top 10 in both goals and assist.
