2015: Jonathan remains most credible Presidential candidate – Group

Goodluck Jonathan

A socio-political group under the aegis of Presidential View, has said last Saturday’s election of Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State has boosted the chances of President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 presidential election.
The group said the victory of the governor, which was hinged on his personality and performance in the state in the past four years had given those pushing for President Jonathan’s re-election in the forth coming election hope that nobody will be able to defeat the president, given that he was the most credible and acceptable personality in the country’s presidential contest at the moment.
At a media briefing by the National Executive members yesterday,in Abuja, the body insisted that since it was Aregbesola’s personality and performance that stood him out among other contestants, then it could go to sleep over President Jonathan’s re-election in 2015.

The National Chairman of the body,Chibuzor Chinweuba, who spoke on behalf of his members, said the President had done so well to deserve re-election.
“The outcome of Osun governorship election which showed that rather than party, the people were for personality and achievements of those involved in the contest, has boosted the chances of President Goodluck Jonathan.”
“Since the people of Osun State, in the last Saturday’s governorship election, have told other Nigerians, through their actions that personality and achievements of contestants are what matter, President Jonathan can now be assured of his re-election victory, given that no contestant in presidential election can stand the president now,”he said.
He listed Jonathan’s achievements in the last four years to include privatisation of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria,PHCN,availability of fuel at petrol stations, job creation, road and railway constructions, infrastructural developments in educational and health sectors among others.
Mr Chinenweuba urged President Goodluck Jonathan to accept the clarion call of majority of Nigerians and come out to contest the election, insisting that majority of the citizens were behind him.
He urged well-meaning Nigerians not only to support the president’s administration but also support him to re-contest the election, saying the current security challenges were not genuine reason to deny the president his constitutional mandate to seek a second term in office, since according to him, the development was a global problem.
But he attributed the security challenge to the past leaders, who he said,if they had done a lot like the current president,Nigeria would not have been witnessing the present insurgency.
He also attributed the inability of the Nigerian military in defeating Boko Haram to what he called ‘”external influence” the insurgents were enjoying.
He said the Boko Haram insurgency in the country was because of 2015 election, saying some politicians in the country had thought the only way they could realise their dreams of ruling the country was to create the dreaded Boko Haram so as not only to destab ilise the country but discredit the Jonathan’s administration.
