"It's the Facebook for patriots," site founder Janet Porter declared about the platform that pays homage to the party's patron saint. Porter claims Facebook has kicked off conservative groups like Americans for Truth About Homosexuality for broadcasting pro-family values but promises that Republicans can roam free on ReaganBook.
"We're tearing down walls of tyranny and censorship," she added about the site, speaking last weekend at the Ohio Liberty Coalition, according to video obtained by Right Wing Watch.Registration for ReaganBook launched Tuesday and more than 1,060 members joined by Wednesday morning — including several parody accounts for Zombie Reagan, Ben Ghazi and Supply Side Jesus.The interface closely resembles Facebook's simple design, features a status update bar at the top and allows fan pages for groups like My Gun Is My Best Friend, White Trash for Jesus and Global Warming?
Though the site boasted it would not censor content, that promise hit a snag when internet trolls bombarded the space with profane postings.
Porter assured users Wednesday that the site administrator would be removing explicit content.
Porter is the President of Faith2Action, a "pro-life, pro-family and pro-active" network with the mission to "win the cultural war for life, liberty and the family," according to the description on the group’s website and …. its Facebook page. Facebook did not respond to a request for comment on allegations from Porter that conservative groups have been removed from the website. Though Porter claimed Americans for Truth, led by founder Peter LaBarbera, was removed from Facebook - likely for claims the organization is a hate group - the group now has a Facebook page.
The group did not respond to a request for comment about its Facebook presence.
