AS students of the Lagos State University (LASU)  resume to campus today, following a directive from the school management last Thursday, it has been gathered that despite this, academic work would remain on hold till the Lagos State government further reviews downwards the new school fee regime it implemented on June 11.
Speaking with the president of LASU Students union, Nurudeen Temitope, he told Newsmen in a telephone conversation on Sunday, in Lagos, that the students union had decided to resume as directed by the management because students were tired of staying at home, “but it did not mean lectures and other academic activities would commence.

“It is just going to be like the period before we went on recess. Students and lecturers were on campus but there were no lectures or academic activities going on. This will be the situation when we resume on Monday till government accedes to our demands,” he said.
Nurudeen  added that the reductions were still not good enough as students would still be paying as much as over N150, 000 which was, according to him, still not acceptable.
He also disclosed that a petition from the students would be submitted to Governor Babatunde Fashola as regards the fee and other issues today, stating that the students union would not stop clamouring a reduction in fees that was in accordance to the proposal submitted to the governor in April.
It will be recalled that last Thursday, in Lagos, the LASU management issued a press statement signed by its public relations officer, Mr Kayode Sutton, said: “having come up with the precise school fees payable by  students in accordance with the 34 to 60 per cent reduction approved by the state government, all students are urged to resume for the 2013/2014 academic session today and commence payment and registrations.”
