The Ekiti Government said it had trained no fewer than 500 mechanics for improved service delivery.
The Commissioner for Labour, Productivity and Human Capital Development, Mr Oluwole Ariyo, said this at the closing of a two-day workshop organised for the artisans in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday.
Ariyo said the workshop was part of government’s resolve to empower artisans operating in the state toward boosting good service delivery.
He said the workshop was also aimed at exposing them to new methods of handling high profile vehicles and those considered as ``too sophisticated’’
He said the participants were drawn from all the 16 Local Government Areas of the state
``The programme is to redirect the artisans and familiarise them with the vision and policies of government in order to improve their skills.
``It is also our thinking that the step we have taken will position them to compete favourably with their counterparts in other parts of the world,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the workshop would equip the artisans with modern techniques for optimum performance on their jobs.
The commissioner described the consultants that handled the workshop as well tested and capable of achieving results.
One of the mechanics, Mr kunle Oladejo, thanked the state government for the gesture, saying the participants would use the knowledge they acquired to improve on their skills.
