The Nigerian Navy has commissioned a multi-purpose community development project comprising an ultra-modern town hall, mini-mart and Information Technology (IT) garden in Ibore-Irrua Community, Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State.
The facilities, commissioned on October 31, 2026, were executed under the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Special Intervention Quick Impact Project (SIQIP) Scheme in honour of Rear Admiral Michael Gregory Oamen (rtd).
The project was commissioned on behalf of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, by Rear Admiral Raheem Taofeek.
The intervention is aimed at supporting grassroots development, providing essential shared facilities and stimulating social and economic activities within the host community.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Rear Admiral Taofeek urged members of the benefiting community to ensure the proper utilisation and maintenance of the facilities to guarantee their sustainability and long-term benefits.
The project underscores the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to community development beyond its traditional maritime security responsibilities, while strengthening civil-military relations and building mutual trust and cooperation with host communities.
Through the CNS SIQIP Scheme, the Nigerian Navy continues to demonstrate the importance of community-focused interventions in fostering goodwill, enhancing cooperation with local populations and creating a conducive environment for effective naval operations.
