Nigeria’s Ambassador to Hungary, H.E. Abasi Braimah, has pledged enhanced welfare support for Nigerian students studying at the University of Pécs, Hungary, assuring them of the Embassy’s commitment to addressing issues affecting their welfare and academic experience.
Ambassador Braimah gave the assurance on Friday, October 30, 2026, when he hosted the leadership of the Nigerian Students’ Union, University of Pécs, alongside home-based staff of the Nigerian Embassy in Budapest.
The delegation, led by the Union’s newly elected executive members, visited the Embassy to formally introduce themselves and explore areas of collaboration with the Nigerian diplomatic mission.
During the engagement, the student leaders highlighted challenges confronting Nigerian students in Pécs and identified areas where the Embassy could provide support and assistance.
Responding, Ambassador Braimah assured the delegation that the Embassy remained committed to supporting Nigerians in Hungary and adding value to their stay in the country.
He encouraged the student leaders to freely share their ideas, concerns and suggestions, stressing the importance of sustained engagement between the Embassy and the Nigerian student community.
The Ambassador also thanked the delegation for the visit and disclosed that the Embassy would undertake a working visit to the University of Pécs to further engage with the Nigerian student population and assess issues affecting their welfare.
The University of Pécs, one of Hungary’s oldest institutions of higher learning, has a history spanning more than 200 years and hosts over 300 Nigerian students.
The engagement underscores the importance of stronger collaboration between Nigerian diplomatic missions and citizens studying abroad, particularly in promoting student welfare, effective communication and institutional partnerships.
