The Nigerian Army has bade farewell to discharged Master Warrant Officers of the Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, with a call on them to remain good ambassadors of the military and maintain peaceful relationships with their host communities.

The ceremony, held at the institution’s conference room, was attended by the Commandant, Depot Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Usman Ahmad, principal staff officers and heads of departments.

The Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, Chikadibia Anele, disclosed this in a statement published on the Nigerian Army’s X handle on Saturday.

Addressing the discharged personnel, Ahmad urged them to sustain cordial relationships with the communities where they would settle and uphold the values and reputation of the Nigerian Army.

“Ensure peaceful relationships with the communities in which you choose to settle and remain good ambassadors of the Nigerian Army,” he said.

The Commandant also encouraged the retired soldiers to continue contributing to the protection of civilians while engaging in hobbies and extracurricular activities to maintain their physical fitness and general well-being.

He noted that leaving active service would mean adjusting to a new routine outside the daily demands of military duties.

“You should strive to protect the civil populace and achieve a balance by engaging in other hobbies and extracurricular activities to keep yourselves fit, as you no longer have the leisure of going to work every day,” Ahmad said.

On behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Commandant expressed appreciation to the discharged Master Warrant Officers for their dedicated service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavours.

Responding on behalf of the discharged personnel, the outgoing Regimental Sergeant Major of the institution, Master Warrant Officer Joshua Agwaru, thanked the Commandant for his mentorship and guidance since assuming command.

Agwaru assured the Commandant and the Nigerian Army of their continued readiness to serve the country in other capacities whenever their services were required.

“We thank the Commandant for his mentorship and guidance. We assure the Commandant, the institution, and the Army at large that we will always be available when needed to serve in other capacities,” he said.

Highlights of the ceremony included words of advice from officers, the presentation of souvenirs and gift items by the Commandant, and group photographs to commemorate the occasion.
