The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and China's state-owned Xinhua News Agency are exploring a strategic media partnership aimed at strengthening Nigeria-China cooperation in the fight against corruption.
The proposed partnership is expected to promote information exchange, professional training and wider international visibility for Nigeria's anti-corruption initiatives.
The ICPC Chairman, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, disclosed this when he received a delegation of Xinhua media professionals led by the agency's Deputy President for Africa, Mr Gui Tao, at the Commission's headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking during the meeting, Gui Tao emphasised the importance of accurate and balanced reporting in promoting international cooperation, describing corruption as a transnational challenge requiring cross-border collaboration.
He expressed Xinhua's readiness to support the ICPC in projecting its anti-corruption activities and achievements to a global audience through the agency's extensive international media network.
In his response, Aliyu described the proposed partnership as an opportunity to strengthen Nigeria-China relations and advance efforts against corruption, particularly illicit financial flows and the cross-border movement of proceeds of crime.
He urged Xinhua to support the Commission's media and public communication activities through technology transfer and professional training for its media personnel.
The ICPC Chairman said such collaboration would strengthen the Commission's communication capacity, improve information dissemination and enhance the global visibility of its anti-corruption efforts.
Gui Tao also reaffirmed Xinhua's commitment to providing technical support and training opportunities for ICPC media personnel.
The proposed partnership is expected to deepen media cooperation between both countries while promoting transparency, public accountability and the rule of law.
