The Acting Commander of the Nigerian Army’s 28 Armoured Brigade, Col. Abdullai Muhammed Umar, has charged troops to maintain high levels of vigilance, discipline and combat readiness while strengthening coordination with sister security agencies and local stakeholders in Kebbi State.
Col. Umar gave the charge during a two-day operational visit to units and formations under the brigade from September 30 to October 1, 2026.
The visit was aimed at assessing troop readiness, reviewing ongoing operations and gaining first-hand insight into the prevailing security situation and operational challenges across the brigade’s area of responsibility.
During the first phase of the visit on September 30, the Acting Commander, accompanied by the Commanding Officer of 223 Battalion, visited CIB III Dirindaji in Sakaba Local Government Area.
At the location, he received a briefing on the prevailing security situation, ongoing operations and challenges confronting troops deployed in the area.
Col. Umar thereafter proceeded to Makuku in Sakaba LGA, where he inspected a proposed military deployment location and assessed its accessibility, operational suitability and requirements for sustained deployment.
The Acting Commander continued the operational assessment on October 1 with a visit to 223 Battalion, where he was received by the Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. SS Dadirep, and accorded a Quarter Guard.
He subsequently received a detailed briefing on the battalion’s area of responsibility, including the prevailing threat environment, ongoing operations, operational readiness, major challenges and recent operational successes.
At the battalion’s operations room, Col. Umar was further briefed on identified threat areas, troop deployments, fighting patrols, search operations and intelligence-led activities being conducted to deny terrorists freedom of action.
He also inspected key locations within the unit and interacted with troops on the ground.
The Acting Commander commended the commanders and troops for their commitment and resilience in sustaining operations across the area of responsibility.
He stressed the need for continued vigilance, discipline and intelligence-driven operations, as well as effective collaboration with other security agencies and local stakeholders.
Col. Umar also emphasised the importance of troop welfare and sustained combat readiness, noting that the ability of troops to respond effectively to emerging threats depends on operational preparedness and strong coordination.
The visit provided the Acting Commander with an opportunity to assess the operational realities confronting units in Kebbi State and evaluate their preparedness to respond to emerging security threats.
