…Recover AK-47 rifle, ammunition, IED
Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have foiled a terrorist ambush along the Miyanti–Banki Junction axis in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, neutralising three terrorists and recovering weapons, ammunition and an Improvised Explosive Device.
The operation took place at about 8:30 a.m. on September 1, 2026, when troops of 151 Task Force Battalion, conducting operations along the Miyanti–Banki Junction Main Supply Route, came under attack.
According to a statement by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Captain Mohammed Goni, the terrorists initiated the ambush with an IED before opening heavy gunfire on the troops.
The soldiers responded swiftly, fighting through the ambush and immediately exploiting the area after the engagement. Three terrorists were neutralised in the encounter.
Troops subsequently recovered one AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine and 14 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. An additional IED was also discovered and recovered during the operation.
The military, however, recorded a casualty as one soldier sustained injuries during the encounter. He was promptly evacuated for medical treatment and is said to be in stable condition and responding to treatment.
A gun truck belonging to the troops also sustained minor damage during the attack.
The military said the successful response demonstrated the vigilance, resilience and combat effectiveness of Operation HADIN KAI troops in countering terrorist threats and preserving freedom of movement along critical routes in the theatre.
It added that troops would continue to sustain pressure on terrorist elements, deny them freedom of action and protect communities and critical routes across the North East.
