The Deputy Commander of Operation Rainbow, CSP Dennis David Babale, has been killed after personnel of the state-owned security outfit came under an ambush along the Bokkos-Barkin Ladi axis of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, when the security personnel, travelling in a Toyota Hilux vehicle, were attacked by gunmen along the Gagshi Road linking Barkin Ladi and Bokkos Local Government Areas. Local reports have confirmed that a member of Operation Rainbow was killed in the ambush.
According to security sources, Babale sustained gunshot wounds during the attack and was rushed to the General Hospital, Barkin Ladi, for treatment. He later succumbed to his injuries.
Following the attack, troops of Sector 4, Operation ENDURING PEACE, reportedly responded to a distress call and moved to the scene, while security personnel from other agencies commenced operations to track the attackers.
The latest attack comes amid renewed security concerns across parts of Plateau State. The state government had, on September 21, imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu Local Government Areas following a series of attacks in the state.
The incident has further heightened concerns over the safety of security personnel and commuters along the Bokkos-Barkin Ladi corridor, as security forces intensify operations to locate those responsible and prevent further attacks.
