The independent committee of inquiry into the reported deaths of 37 persons in NSCDC custody has commenced sitting, following its inauguration by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
In a statement by its secretary, Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, SAN, the committee said it held its inaugural meeting immediately after inauguration and adopted a work plan to guide the investigation.
According to the statement, the committee will visit all relevant sites, engage government agencies, interview survivors, suspects and other relevant persons, and obtain all necessary materials to establish facts surrounding the incident.
It added that its medical team has commenced work to determine the causes, mechanisms and manner of deaths.
The committee appealed to members of the public to support its investigation, noting it will invite memoranda from interested individuals and organisations.
Details on submission of memoranda, including venue and date for physical presentations, will be communicated in due course
