The President of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Dr. (Mrs.) Saffiyah Hassan Shaibu, has commissioned a newly remodelled crèche and nursery school at Dalet Cantonment, Kaduna State, as part of efforts to improve the welfare and educational environment of children from military families.
The facility, commissioned on Thursday, September 24, 2026, was named the Dr. Saffiyah Hassan Shaibu Crèche and Nursery School. The remodelling project was executed under the leadership of the Chairperson, NAOWA 1 Division Chapter, Dr. (Mrs.) Halima Bamanga Tafida Wase.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Shaibu described the project as an investment in the future of military families, noting that the modernised facility would provide children with a safe and conducive environment for early learning, play and cognitive development.
She said improved facilities for children and teachers would also give military parents greater peace of mind, stressing that the wellbeing of children, teachers and parents remained interconnected.
Dr. Shaibu said the project was in line with her vision of building a united and innovative NAOWA focused on empowering military families and creating dignified environments for raising the next generation.
She appreciated the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for his support for welfare initiatives across the Nigerian Army, while also commending the General Officer Commanding, 1 Division, for facilitating community-focused projects within the barracks.
Earlier, Dr. Tafida Wase described the commissioning as a historic milestone, saying the transformation of the school went beyond physical renovation to represent a long-term investment in the education and development of children in the barracks.
The ceremony was attended by senior military officers and their spouses, NAOWA executives, representatives of Army Headquarters, zonal coordinators, community leaders and members of the media.
The event ended with the presentation of commemorative souvenirs and a group photograph.
