Nigerian security forces operating under Operation FANSAN YANMA have carried out airstrikes on suspected terrorist positions in Yankuzo community, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, with several fighters reportedly killed.

The operation was said to have taken place on the evening of September 7, 2026, when five military aircraft reportedly conducted a coordinated aerial engagement over the community.

Local sources said the aircraft targeted suspected terrorists in the area, killing several fighters and wounding others. The exact number of casualties, however, could not immediately be independently established.

One of those reportedly killed was identified as Isiya Gurgu, said to be a close associate of a notorious bandit leader known as Musa Commander, who is reportedly linked to the Ado Aleru network.

Sources further claimed that Musa Commander maintains links to several communities allegedly controlled by armed groups, including Tsamiya and other settlements around the area.

The operation was reportedly conducted with caution to reduce the risk of civilian casualties, with the engagement said to have focused on individuals observed carrying weapons or wearing military-style clothing.

Several other suspected terrorists were also reportedly wounded in the strikes.

Yankuzo has been identified by local sources as a stronghold of armed groups linked to the Ado Aleru network, with residents reportedly facing persistent threats from fighters operating in and around the community.

Security agencies are expected to continue assessing the outcome of the operation, including the number of casualties and the extent of damage inflicted on the terrorist group.

Official confirmation from the relevant security authorities on the operation and casualty figures was not immediately available.
