The South West Youth Alliance has called on the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, to honour invitations reportedly extended to him by the Nigeria Police Force over allegations concerning his administration.
The call was contained in a statement signed by the Convener of the group, Adenike Ajanlekoko, who urged the Vice-Chancellor to cooperate with investigators and use the process to address the allegations against him.
The Alliance said the allegations, which reportedly include academic fraud, impersonation, forgery, falsification of official documents and alleged illegal appointment, should be subjected to proper investigation by the relevant authorities.
“We call on Prof. Ogunwole to honour the invitations reportedly extended to him by the Force Intelligence Department and the Nigeria Police Cybercrime Centre. If he has no case to answer, the appropriate place to demonstrate this is before the investigating authorities, where he can provide the necessary documents, explanations and evidence to clear his name,” Ajanlekoko said.
The group also urged the Vice-Chancellor to cooperate with the police over other allegations reportedly involving unlawful recording, privacy violations, workplace harassment, victimisation, cyberbullying and threat to life.
It cautioned against using staff unions or other groups to obstruct police officers from carrying out their duties, specifically urging members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) not to interfere with any lawful investigation.
The Alliance stressed that public statements, protests and media campaigns could not replace formal investigative and judicial processes, adding that any concerns about the conduct of the investigation should be addressed through appropriate legal and administrative channels.
Ajanlekoko urged all parties to exercise restraint and allow the police to conduct their investigation professionally and in accordance with the law, while respecting the rights of all persons involved, including the presumption of innocence.
The group also appealed to members of the university community to avoid actions capable of escalating tensions on campus and called for transparency, accountability and respect for due process.
