Barely 24 hours before the resumption of academic activities across Oyo State, suspected bandits reportedly attacked an Operation Burst security base in a forest reserve along the Igbeti–Igboho axis of Oorelope Local Government Area.
According to a security update from the Oorelope Local Government Command, the attack occurred between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2026. The command said it received a distress call that armed men had invaded the base and immediately mobilised personnel, alongside operatives from sister security agencies, to the scene.
The attackers, however, had fled before the security team arrived. Preliminary findings indicated that the assailants allegedly stormed the base in large numbers and opened fire on security personnel with powerful weapons, reportedly in an attempt to overrun the facility, kill the personnel and seize their weapons.
Although no casualty was recorded, the attackers allegedly set fire to a block within the security base and a patrol van, destroying both. Security operatives subsequently combed the area in search of the perpetrators but were unable to apprehend them. The Oorelope Command said investigations and security operations are ongoing, with further details to be released.
