The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) chapter, has honoured the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, Prince Leke Adegbite, with a Distinguished Leadership Award.

Adegbite was honoured alongside the former Attorney-General of Ondo State, Adekola Olawoye; former Chairman of the Ondo State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Victor Amoko; and other distinguished personalities.

The award was presented on Thursday during the 80th Regular Zonal Executive Council Meeting of SSANU, South-West Zone, held at the Nelson Mandela Hall of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of AAUA-SSANU, Comrade Tayo Ogungbeni, said Adegbite was recognised for his commitment to amplifying the voices of the voiceless and drawing public attention to issues affecting society through journalism.

Ogungbeni said the award was part of efforts to celebrate individuals who had distinguished themselves through their contributions to society.

He said, “We deemed it necessary to honour individuals who have distinguished themselves through their contributions to society. Prince Leke Adegbite has consistently used his platform to give voice to the voiceless and draw attention to issues that matter to the people.

“This award is therefore a recognition of his commitment, professionalism and service to humanity. We believe he deserves to be encouraged to do more in the interest of society.”

Responding, Adegbite, who was represented at the ceremony by journalist Adeboye Ado, expressed appreciation to SSANU for the recognition.

He described the honour as a call to greater responsibility and pledged that journalists in Ondo State would continue to uphold the ethics and standards of the profession.

Adegbite said, “I am deeply grateful to SSANU for finding me worthy of this honour. I regard the award not only as recognition, but also as a call to greater responsibility in the discharge of my duties as a journalist and NUJ chairman.

“We will continue to use the pen to expose societal ills, amplify the voices of the voiceless and promote unbiased reportage. The media must remain a strong pillar in the pursuit of justice, accountability and good governance.”

The latest honour marks the third recognition received by the Ondo NUJ chairman from Adekunle Ajasin University within the past three months, underscoring the growing recognition of his contributions to journalism and public service.
