The attack occurred at about 1:40 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, when terrorists attempted to infiltrate the military base under the cover of darkness.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, vigilant troops detected the movement of the terrorists early and responded with coordinated and overwhelming firepower, forcing the attackers to retreat in disarray after suffering heavy casualties.
Following the failed assault, reinforcement troops immediately launched a pursuit operation against the fleeing terrorists, who had abducted an unspecified number of residents from nearby communities during the attack.

The troops successfully rescued nine abducted civilians and safely reunited them with security personnel.
The military, however, confirmed that the operation claimed the lives of one Nigerian Army officer and one Police officer, who were killed while defending the base. Two soldiers also sustained gunshot wounds and were airlifted to a medical facility for advanced treatment. They are reported to be in stable condition.
Lieutenant Colonel Osoba dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that six security personnel were killed, describing the information as false. He clarified that only one Army officer and one Police officer lost their lives during the engagement.
He noted that troops have secured the area and are conducting exploitation operations to determine the full extent of the terrorists’ casualties while ensuring the safety of surrounding communities.
The Army described the failed attack as another major setback for terrorist groups operating in the North-West, saying the outcome reflects the increasing pressure being mounted on criminal elements by Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
The statement reaffirmed that the operation remains committed to sustaining aggressive offensive operations, protecting vulnerable communities, and dismantling terrorist networks until lasting peace and security are restored across the North-West.
