Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have recorded fresh operational successes across Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states, repelling an attempted attack by suspected ISWAP terrorists, neutralising a terrorist fighter, arresting a suspected terrorist scout and intercepting petroleum products suspected to be destined for criminal elements.
In Borno State, troops of the 153 Task Force Battalion, operating from Kirawa alongside the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and Hybrid Forces, repelled an encounter with suspected ISWAP terrorists along the Pulka–Kirawa Road in Gwoza Local Government Area.
The incident occurred at about 3:32 p.m. on July 17 during a fighting patrol when the troops came into contact with the insurgents. A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, forcing the terrorists to retreat under sustained military pressure.
Following the engagement, the troops conducted an exploitation of the area and recovered one motorcycle abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
In a separate operation on the same day, troops, supported by aerial surveillance, neutralised a suspected ISWAP fighter during a coordinated surveillance and air interdiction mission in the Marte axis of Borno State.
Personnel at the Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) Logomani and Gajibo detected suspicious terrorist movement towards the Marte general area at about 6:46 p.m. Intelligence from the surveillance prompted the deployment of an air platform, which tracked the suspects and carried out a precision strike that killed a terrorist riding a motorcycle. Ground troops subsequently moved in to exploit the target area.
Meanwhile, in Yobe State, troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade Garrison, working in conjunction with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and Forest Guards, arrested a suspected ISWAP/JAS scout during a successful ambush operation behind Buni Yadi in Gujba Local Government Area.
The operation, conducted at about 2:00 a.m. on July 18, followed credible intelligence on the movement of suspected terrorist scouts and informants. Security personnel laid an ambush along the suspected route, leading to the arrest of one injured suspect believed to be serving as a scout and informant for the terrorist group.
In another operation aimed at disrupting terrorist logistics, troops of the 247 Reconnaissance Battalion intercepted 15 jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) during a fighting patrol along the Muchalla Road in Mubi North Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The operation, carried out between 10:30 a.m. and 3:40 p.m. on July 17, followed intelligence on the smuggling of petroleum products through border routes. The troops seized the fuel, suspected to have been intended for criminal and terrorist elements operating in the North-East.
Military authorities said the intercepted petroleum products have been taken into custody for further necessary action, while troops continue to intensify offensive operations, border patrols and intelligence-driven missions aimed at denying terrorists freedom of movement, dismantling their logistics networks and enhancing security across the North-East.
