The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has officially launched the PCRC Safe Schools Club Initiative, a nationwide programme aimed at promoting security awareness and creating safer learning environments across educational institutions in Nigeria.
The initiative was flagged off at the PCRC National Secretariat in Abuja by the National Chairman, Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Aramide Olaniyan, alongside the PCRC Rivers State Chairman, Dr. Voke Emore, the PCRC USA Coordinator, Chief Dr. Churchill Etuk, the National Safe Schools Coordinator, Ambassador Samuel Akintoye, and other senior members of the committee.
Speaking at the event, Alhaji Olaniyan reaffirmed the PCRC’s commitment to supporting the vision of the Inspector-General of Police in ensuring that schools across the country remain safe, secure and conducive for learning.
He described the Safe Schools Club Initiative as a strategic platform designed to instill security consciousness, discipline, patriotism and community policing values among pupils and students from an early age.
According to him, the programme will strengthen collaboration between schools, parents, security agencies and host communities, creating a sustainable framework for protecting educational institutions against security threats.
Also speaking, the National Safe Schools Coordinator, Ambassador Samuel Akintoye, said the initiative would equip students with practical knowledge on personal safety, emergency preparedness, crime prevention, conflict resolution and responsible citizenship.
He added that implementation of the programme would be extended to schools across the federation through coordinated state and zonal structures to ensure its nationwide impact.
Dr. Voke Emore and Chief Dr. Churchill Etuk commended the National Chairman for his visionary leadership, noting that the initiative has continued to attract widespread support, including from Nigerians in the diaspora. They pledged their commitment to ensuring the successful expansion of the Safe Schools Club Initiative within and beyond Nigeria.
The Special Senior Assistant to the PCRC National Chairman on Civil Engagement, Comrade Bibi Oduku, described the launch as the beginning of renewed security attention for schools across the country.
He disclosed that the PCRC Department of Civil Engagement would collaborate with reputable community-based security organisations to complement the efforts of the committee in providing a peaceful and secure learning environment for students nationwide.
Comrade Oduku said the initiative would strengthen trust between communities and security stakeholders while ensuring that pupils and students can pursue their education without fear of insecurity.
He commended the PCRC National Chairman, members of the Safe Schools Committee and all stakeholders whose efforts made the initiative a reality.
He also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for his leadership and continued commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s internal security architecture and ensuring the safety of lives and property.
The launch of the PCRC Safe Schools Club Initiative marks the beginning of a nationwide campaign to promote safer educational institutions while raising a new generation of security-conscious young Nigerians committed to peace, order and community development.
