The Niger State Police Command has launched investigations into two separate violent attacks that claimed three lives and left three others abducted in Agwara and Lavun Local Government Areas of the state.

In the first incident, police commenced a manhunt for suspected vigilantes from the Republic of Benin following the killing of two Fulani men in Rafin-Kala Village, via Gallah, in Agwara Local Government Area.

The attack reportedly occurred at about 9:00 p.m. on July 23, when the suspected vigilantes allegedly crossed into the Nigerian border community and attacked the victims with machetes.

The deceased were identified as Mohammed Sani, 26, and Adamu Sani, 30, who were reportedly hacked to death during the assault.

Following a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) mobilised detectives and tactical operatives to the scene, where the bodies were recovered and evacuated to the General Hospital, Agwara, for autopsy.

Police sources said investigations have commenced, while efforts are underway to identify, track and arrest those responsible for the cross-border attack.

In a separate incident, gunmen killed a 25-year-old man and abducted three residents during a midnight attack on Tashar Hajiya Community in Lavun Local Government Area.

The attack occurred at about 2:30 a.m. on July 24 when unidentified armed men stormed the community, shooting sporadically and causing panic among residents.

During the attack, Mustafa Murtala, 25, was fatally shot by the assailants.

The gunmen also abducted Alhaji Baza Baza, his wife and one of their daughters before fleeing to an unknown destination.

On receiving the distress report, the Area Commander led a team of police operatives to the scene. The body of the deceased was evacuated to the General Hospital, Kutigi, where it was deposited for autopsy.

Police said tactical teams have intensified efforts to track down the attackers, rescue the abducted victims unhurt and bring those responsible for the attack to justice. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
