Nigerian Navy Seizes Militant Boats, Engines After Hideout Takedown In Cross River

The Nigerian Navy has intensified its crackdown on militant and kidnapping networks in the waterways of Cross River State, recording fresh operational gains following the destruction of a major hideout at Dayspring Island.

In a press statement issued on May 4, 2026, the Director of Naval Information, Abiodun Folorunsho, said the latest successes stem from sustained follow-up clearance operations by personnel of NNS Victory and Forward Operating Base Ibaka.

According to the Navy, troops uncovered and seized ten outboard engines hidden in bushes and within a nearby structure close to a previously destroyed militant residence linked to a suspect identified as “Juju.” The discovery forms part of a broader effort to dismantle the logistics networks that enable criminal activity along the waterways.

In a separate intelligence-led operation near Akpamfi Creek, naval personnel advanced on another suspected militant location. On sighting the troops, the militants reportedly fled, abandoning two fibre boats and a 200-horsepower outboard engine. The equipment was recovered and moved to a secured naval outpost.

The Navy noted that fibre boats and high-powered engines are critical tools used by militant groups for mobility, smuggling, and attacks, making their seizure a significant operational setback for the criminals.

Authorities added that sustained pressure from naval forces has degraded militant capabilities, limited their movement, and denied them safe havens within the region.

The Nigerian Navy reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the offensive until all criminal elements are flushed out, while urging members of the public to continue providing credible intelligence to support ongoing operations.
