The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to personnel welfare and infrastructure development with the commissioning of key projects in Lagos as part of activities marking the Nigerian Navy Week and the Service’s 70th Anniversary.
The projects commissioned include the Dolphin Golf Club House, a 48-room accommodation block for junior ratings, and 16 units of two-bedroom flats located within Navy Town, Lagos.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Vice Admiral Abbas described the projects as tangible symbols of the Navy’s transformation over the past seven decades from a modest maritime force into a modern and capable service.
He noted that the newly completed facilities demonstrate the Navy’s commitment to improving personnel welfare, strengthening support infrastructure, and creating an enabling environment for personnel and their families.
The Naval Chief highlighted the completion of the 48-room accommodation block, which had remained abandoned for more than five years after construction commenced. He said the successful completion of the project reflects the Navy’s determination to revive and complete abandoned but viable projects across its formations.
According to him, officers, ratings, and civilian staff should expect the commissioning of more previously abandoned projects as the Navy sustains its policy of ensuring that investments made for personnel welfare deliver the intended benefits.
Vice Admiral Abbas also described the Dolphin Golf Club House as a strategic investment in the Navy’s social and recreational infrastructure. He said the facility would serve as a platform for professional interaction, foster camaraderie among personnel and veterans, and strengthen engagement with partners and members of the wider naval community.
While celebrating the achievements, the CNS stressed the importance of maintaining the newly commissioned facilities. He urged beneficiaries and custodians to embrace a strong maintenance culture, take ownership of the infrastructure, and ensure prudent electricity consumption to preserve the investments.
The Naval Chief expressed gratitude to President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his continued support towards the growth and modernization of the Nigerian Navy. He also commended the project implementation teams, contractors, engineers, and workers whose dedication ensured the successful completion of the projects.
Vice Admiral Abbas expressed confidence that the facilities would contribute significantly to the institutional development and operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Navy in the years ahead.
