The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed the recent kidnapping incident in Oyo State, declaring that the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) will relentlessly pursue those responsible until peace and security are fully restored in the affected area.
Addressing journalists during the monthly briefing at the Defence Headquarters, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, disclosed that the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, has ordered an immediate and comprehensive security reinforcement operation across the general area.
According to him, the CDS expressed heartfelt sympathy and solidarity with the affected families, as well as the government and people of Oyo State, stressing that any threat to civilian peace remains “an intolerable affront to national sovereignty.”
Major General Onoja revealed that advanced aerial surveillance platforms and specialised ground troops have already been deployed in close coordination with state authorities to track down the perpetrators and restore normalcy.
He added that ongoing operations are already generating useful intelligence, while troops have been directed to sustain aggressive pressure on criminal elements until they are apprehended.
Speaking further on military operations nationwide, the DHQ presented a comparative assessment of Armed Forces activities for March, April, and May 2026, which showed a mixed operational outcome across various theatres.
The report indicated a decline in the number of terrorists neutralised, but recorded a significant increase in arrests, civilian rescues, and the number of terrorists surrendering to troops. It also highlighted reductions in arms recoveries, crude oil seizures, and the destruction of illegal refining sites during the period under review.
Despite the mixed statistics, the CDS commended troops for their gallantry, tactical ingenuity, and professionalism in ongoing operations across the country.
General Oluyede also paid tribute to personnel who lost their lives in active service, extending condolences to their families and loved ones.
He further charged commanders across all operational theatres to sustain operational momentum, prioritise troop welfare, and maintain the highest standards in protecting civilians.
The Defence Headquarters also called on Nigerians to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence, noting that community collaboration has played a decisive role in many recent military successes.
“The commitment of the Defence Headquarters to a secure, united, and prosperous Nigeria remains steadfast, unwavering, and absolute,” the statement added
