Fatal Stabbing In Cameroon Triggers Deadly Reprisals Against Nigerians

A fatal stabbing incident in Fotokol, northern Cameroon, has sparked a wave of retaliatory attacks against Nigerian nationals, leaving one person dead and several others injured.

Security sources disclosed that the violence began around 3:30 p.m. on April 29, when a Cameroonian man was allegedly stabbed to death by a Nigerian suspect, who is currently on the run.

The incident reportedly triggered xenophobic reprisals by locals targeting Nigerians residing in the area. In the ensuing violence, one Nigerian was killed, while seven others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

In response to the escalating tensions, troops of 3 Battalion (Mechanised) and the 24 Task Force Brigade swiftly intervened to contain the situation and prevent further breakdown of law and order in the border communities.

The injured victims have since been evacuated to a general hospital in Ngala, Borno State, where they are receiving medical treatment.

Security sources said efforts are ongoing to restore calm in the affected areas, while authorities are intensifying the search for the fleeing suspect and working to prevent further attacks on vulnerable communities.
