The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that Nigeria is set to commence the deployment of its ambassador-designates after receiving over 29 agreements following the completion of a mandatory induction programme.
Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja, the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, disclosed that both ambassadors and their spouses are required to participate in the induction exercise.
According to him, the programme is designed to equip them with essential diplomatic skills, including engagement with host authorities, conduct at official functions, and proper etiquette in public and international settings.
He explained that the training also covers how to host foreign dignitaries, interact with high-profile personalities, and maintain decorum in formal environments. The induction serves as a refresher course to prepare them for the responsibilities of diplomatic service.
The spokesperson further revealed that Nigeria has already received more than 25 agreements—commonly referred to as agrément—from countries where the ambassador-designates are expected to serve.
He added that the three-day induction programme is scheduled to hold from April 27 to April 29, after which those who have secured approval from host countries will proceed to their respective postings.
Ebienfa noted that it is standard diplomatic practice not to publicly disclose specific postings, adding that flexibility is maintained in assignments to allow for redeployment in cases where approval is not granted by a host country.
He assured that the Ministry would continue to manage the process in line with established diplomatic protocols.
