The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has deployed 1,803 personnel and operational assets across churches and recreational centres in Abuja ahead of the 2026 Easter celebration.
The Command said the move is part of proactive measures to strengthen existing security arrangements and ensure the safety of worshippers, residents, and visitors throughout the festive period.
According to the police, the deployment will feature enhanced visibility policing, intelligence-led operations, coordinated vehicular and foot patrols, as well as continuous monitoring to enable the prompt detection and prevention of criminal activities.
The Command also disclosed that its Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units have been directed to carry out routine sweeps of major public and recreational locations across the FCT to reduce potential security threats during the celebrations.
Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, while extending Easter greetings to Christian faithful in the territory, urged residents to embrace the spirit of the season by promoting peace, unity, and mutual respect.
He called on residents to remain law-abiding and encouraged religious leaders to continue preaching tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
The Commissioner further reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property before, during, and after the Easter celebrations, while also appealing for continued cooperation with the police and other security agencies to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free festive period.
