The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, on Thursday participated in the Governing Board Meeting of the National Defence College (NDC) in Abuja, alongside top defence and military leaders, in a move aimed at strengthening strategic military education and deepening national security coordination.
The high-level meeting, held on 2 April 2026, brought together the Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa; the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; and other Service Chiefs, as they deliberated on critical issues concerning the future of military training, strategic leadership development and inter-agency cooperation in Nigeria’s national defence architecture.
The meeting provided a vital platform for reviewing the College’s training objectives, aligning its academic and strategic programmes with the country’s evolving security realities, and reinforcing collaborative frameworks necessary to address emerging threats across the national security landscape.
Participants also examined ways to further strengthen the National Defence College’s role in producing senior military and civilian leaders equipped with the strategic insight required to respond to increasingly complex security challenges.
The session was hosted by the Commandant of the National Defence College, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed, a development that further highlighted the institution’s status as Nigeria’s apex centre for strategic military education and national security thought leadership.
The participation of the Chief of the Air Staff and other senior defence officials underscores the Armed Forces’ continued commitment to institutional capacity building, jointness in operations, and the integration of strategic learning into national security planning.
The meeting comes at a time when Nigeria continues to confront a wide range of security threats, including terrorism, insurgency, banditry, cyber threats and transnational organised crime, making strategic defence education and policy coordination more critical than ever.
