Born on 4 October 1954 in Numan, Adamawa State, the late officer was commissioned into the Nigerian Air Force as a member of Regular Combatant Commission Course 15. He rose through the ranks as a highly respected Fighter Air Traffic Control Officer, earning a reputation for professionalism, strategic foresight, and exceptional leadership.
His professional development included advanced training at the Royal Air Force Shawbury, United Kingdom, and the Ghana Armed Forces Staff College, experiences that sharpened his administrative and operational capabilities and prepared him for key command appointments in the Service.
Group Captain Ethnan is particularly remembered for his impactful tenure as Commander, Base Service Organization, Ikeja, where he initiated sweeping reforms that transformed the Base environment and significantly improved infrastructure, welfare, sanitation, and security.
