PCRC Defends CP Adebowale Lawal, Commends Ondo Police Over Security Gains

The Ondo State Command of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has strongly dismissed allegations that the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, received a bribe of N2 million, describing the claim as a calculated attempt to tarnish the reputation of a diligent and result-driven police leader.

In a statement issued by the Publicity Secretary of the PCRC, Ondo State Command, Joseph O. Akeju, the committee said the allegation was baseless, unfounded and not supported by any credible evidence.

The committee maintained that the Ondo State Police Command under CP Adebowale Lawal has recorded significant achievements in maintaining law and order across the state.

According to the PCRC, the command recently carried out an operation in Idanre which led to the arrest of six suspected fraudsters involved in what has been described as a “miracle scam.”

The committee said credible investigations and confessional statements from the suspects clearly established the fraudulent activities allegedly carried out to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.

The PCRC stated that the exposure of the fake miracle operators appears to have angered certain individuals who benefited from the fraudulent scheme, adding that the allegations against the Commissioner of Police were part of a coordinated propaganda campaign aimed at discrediting him and undermining the ongoing crackdown on criminal elements hiding under the guise of religious activities.

“We view these allegations as a deliberate attempt by propagandists and vested interests to distract the police command from its commitment to sanitizing the state and protecting innocent citizens,” the statement read.

The committee therefore urged members of the public to disregard what it described as false claims and instead acknowledge the efforts of the Ondo State Police Command under CP Lawal in safeguarding lives and property.

Highlighting the command’s achievements, the PCRC said one of its most significant successes was the operation that led to the arrest of terrorists responsible for attacks on churches and mosques in the state.

According to the committee, the swift response and professional investigation by the police command not only restored public confidence but also helped prevent further attacks on religious institutions.

The PCRC further stated that CP Lawal’s leadership has strengthened the fight against criminal activities, including fraud, cultism, kidnapping and other organised crimes threatening peace in the state.

It added that his proactive policing strategies and collaboration with community stakeholders have significantly improved security and intelligence gathering across Ondo State.

The committee reaffirmed its confidence in the leadership of the Commissioner of Police and commended officers and men of the command for their professionalism and dedication to duty.

It also reiterated its commitment to continue working closely with the police and other stakeholders to strengthen community policing and ensure lasting peace and security in Ondo State.
