The Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Nigeria and Overseas, has officially announced the death of its former President, Pastor Abraham Olukunle Akinosun, who passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at the age of 81.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by the General Secretary of the church, Pastor E. E. Mapur. According to the statement, the late cleric died on Sunday afternoon.
Pastor Akinosun served as the 7th President of Christ Apostolic Church, Nigeria and Overseas, from 2012 until his retirement in 2020 after attaining the statutory retirement age of 75.
During his tenure, he was widely regarded for his administrative leadership and contributions to the growth and doctrinal stability of the church. His leadership period was associated with efforts aimed at strengthening spiritual development and institutional structure within the denomination.
Born on February 27, 1945, Pastor Akinosun began his early education between 1955 and 1960. He later trained in plumbing under the Ibadan City Works from 1962 to 1965, obtaining Grade II and Grade III Trade Test certifications. He worked with several construction firms, including Drake and Scull Limited, Julius Berger, G. Cappa, and Italcom, before transitioning fully into ministry.
He answered the call to Christian ministry in 1972 and attended the CAC Bible Training College between 1973 and 1975. He began his ministerial service as a catechist at CAC Oja-Odan and later served in various locations, including CAC Yaba.
In 1978, he traveled to Europe for further theological studies in countries including Germany, Sweden, and Belgium. He obtained a degree in Biblical Studies from the Continental Theological Seminary in Belgium. He was ordained as a pastor in 1981 and subsequently posted to CAC Epinmi Centre.
Pastor Akinosun also served as a lecturer at the CAC Theological Seminary in Ile-Ife from 1982 and later pastored congregations in Ibadan. In 1991, he was promoted to the position of District Superintendent and assigned to CAC Itire.
He continued his rise in church leadership, becoming Chairman of CAC Osogbo District Coordinating Council (DCC) in 2000. In December 2010, he was appointed General Superintendent of the church, a role he held until 2012 before assuming office as President.
Beyond ecclesiastical duties, Pastor Akinosun was an author with 12 published books to his credit, covering theology and Christian ministry. He was also recognized for his contributions to society, receiving the honorary title of Justice of the Peace (JP) from the Osun State Government in 2002.
He served as Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Osun State Chapter, from 2002 to 2010.
