The Delta State Police Command has recorded major operational successes in its ongoing crackdown on crime, arresting 34 suspects in a suspected cyber fraud hideout and apprehending two suspected armed robbers with a locally fabricated gun and two live cartridges in separate coordinated operations.
In a statement issued on March 30, 2026, the Command said the operations underscored its renewed resolve to combat cybercrime, armed robbery and other forms of criminality across the state.
34 Suspects Arrested In Suspected Cybercrime Hub
In what the police described as a major breakthrough against internet fraud, operatives of the Quick Response Squad, led by SP Collins Arrey, stormed a location in Opete on March 28, 2026, following a distress report.
According to the Command, the raid was triggered after a caller reported that her younger brother had sent a distress message claiming he was being held hostage and forced to engage in cybercrime.
The operation led police to a residential apartment allegedly converted into a cyber fraud base, where 34 suspects were arrested on the spot.
Police said items recovered from the scene included 37 laptops, one iPad, seven mobile phones, and a calabash containing suspected charms, suggesting what authorities described as the organised nature and scale of the illegal activities.
Investigations, the Command said, are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ operations and possible links to wider cybercrime networks.
Two Suspected Armed Robbers Arrested, Gun Recovered
In a separate operation on March 29, 2026, at about 9:00 a.m., operatives of the Department of Operations attached to the Delta State Police Command intercepted a tricycle conveying two occupants under suspicious circumstances along Ogbolu/Illah Road.
The police said the tricycle rider initially pretended to comply when flagged down, but one of the passengers suddenly jumped out and fled into a nearby bush in an apparent attempt to escape arrest.
Operatives reportedly gave chase, and during the pursuit, the fleeing suspect allegedly resisted arrest by attacking officers with a wooden object. He was eventually overpowered and taken into custody.
A search of the tricycle led to the recovery of one locally fabricated cut-to-size gun loaded with two live cartridges.
The suspect was identified as Mustapha Musa, 32, said to be from Kogi State, while the tricycle rider was identified as Iyanosor Ogbizi, 34.
Both men are currently in police custody, while the recovered exhibits have been transferred for further investigation.
Command Reaffirms Anti-Crime Resolve
The Delta State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Yemi John Oyeniyi, said the operations reflect its commitment to intelligence-led policing, rapid response, and sustained efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information.
Police authorities said the latest arrests form part of broader measures to tackle cybercrime, armed robbery and related threats to public safety in Delta State.
