The Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of eleven additional suspects in connection with the alleged incidents of sexual assaults reported in Oramudu Quarters, Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area of the state.
This development follows earlier disturbing reports that sparked public outrage and prompted intensified police investigations into the incident.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the Command disclosed that the arrests were made in line with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Aina Adesola, who ordered a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
According to the statement, the Commissioner tasked the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) with conducting a detailed probe into the incident.
“Acting on this directive, operatives of CP-SAT carried out a thorough analysis of available video evidence and intelligence, which led to the arrest of eleven additional suspects, namely Samson Atukpodo, Steven Ovie, Ugbevo Samson, Afoke Akporobaro, Evidence Oguname, and six others,” the statement said.
The Command noted that the latest arrests have brought the total number of suspects currently in police custody in connection with the incident to fifteen.
Police further stated that preliminary findings indicate that the unfortunate incident was carried out by criminal elements who exploited the situation to commit acts of sexual violence, stressing that such actions are in no way reflective of any legitimate cultural practice.
Condemning the acts in strong terms, CP Aina Adesola reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring that all those involved are identified, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
“The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Aina Adesola, condemns these acts in totality and reassures the public that the Command remains resolute in its determination to ensure that all those involved are identified, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” the statement added.
The Police Command also urged members of the public, particularly victims and witnesses, to come forward with credible information that could assist ongoing investigations, assuring that all information provided would be treated with strict confidentiality.
The Command maintained that investigations are still ongoing and promised to keep the public updated on further developments.
