The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for equipping the Nigerian Army with modern weapons and critical military equipment to tackle security challenges across the country.
Governor Alia gave the commendation on Thursday, 5 March 2026, while receiving the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, during a courtesy visit at the Government House in Makurdi.
In a statement issued by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the governor praised the Federal Government’s support to the Nigerian Army, noting that the provision of sophisticated weapons would strengthen the military’s capacity to address emerging security threats, particularly in Benue State and other affected regions.
During the visit, the COAS assured the governor that the Nigerian Army is enhancing its operational capacity to deliver improved security outcomes. He noted that the acquisition of modern weapons and combat enablers, made possible through the support of President Tinubu, would significantly boost the effectiveness of troops in ongoing operations.
Lieutenant General Shaibu also commended the Benue State Government and residents for their resilience and continued support to security agencies despite the security challenges in parts of the state. He particularly appreciated the cooperation extended to troops of Operation Whirl Stroke, describing it as vital to the progress of ongoing military operations.
The Army Chief further urged the state government and the public to sustain close collaboration with the military and other security agencies, stressing that strong synergy between security forces, government authorities and local communities remains essential to restoring lasting peace and stability.
Responding, Governor Alia described the visit of the Army Chief as timely and reassuring, especially at a period when intensified security measures are required. He also welcomed the deployment of additional troops to reinforce operations in the state.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in their efforts to curb criminal activities and restore peace across Benue State.
