The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reinforced its commitment to protecting Nigeria’s critical oil and gas infrastructure in the Niger Delta following a strategic operational visit by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, to the NAF Base in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

During the visit on Thursday, the CAS commissioned newly completed infrastructure projects and inspected key operational facilities aimed at strengthening the Air Force’s capacity to secure vital national assets and tackle economic sabotage in the region.

In a statement issued by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the visit forms part of the CAS’s ongoing nationwide operational assessment designed to boost readiness, improve personnel welfare, and evaluate frontline capabilities across Nigerian Air Force units.

At the 115 Special Operations Group (115 SOG), the hub of the Nigerian Air Force’s combat helicopter operations, Air Marshal Aneke inaugurated a modern briefing room complex and other renovated structures intended to enhance mission planning, command coordination, and administrative efficiency.

The CAS also inspected major operational facilities including the runway and apron VIP areas, aircraft hangars, and the Nigerian Air Force Hospital within the base.

He stressed that modern infrastructure remains critical to sustaining operational efficiency.

“Modern and functional infrastructure remain essential to sustaining high operational standards and effective mission execution,” he said.
