The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening inter-agency collaboration with the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), to strengthen border security management in Borno and Yobe States.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Media Information Officer, Headquarters OPHK, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, following a courtesy visit by the Customs Area Controller in charge of Borno and Yobe States, Controller Abdullahi Mohammed Idris, to the OPHK Headquarters on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
During the visit, Controller Idris said the engagement was aimed at consolidating the existing cordial relationship between the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the Nigeria Customs Service. He noted that enhanced collaboration was critical to addressing evolving security challenges along Nigeria’s borders.
The Area Controller revealed that the NCS has deployed Geo-Partial Surveillance Technology across the nation’s land and sea borders to improve monitoring and rapid response capabilities. He added that the Service was seeking the guidance and operational support of OPHK as a key security stakeholder in the North-East, particularly in Borno and Yobe States.
Idris also acknowledged the vital role of the Nigerian Army in the establishment of the Nigerian Customs Service Staff College and its continued support for capacity building within the Service.
Responding, the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, commended the Nigeria Customs Service for its pivotal role in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and managing border security.
He stressed the importance of a multi-agency approach to tackling national security challenges, in line with the Service Chiefs’ Command Philosophy which emphasises jointness and synergy among security agencies.
Major General Abubakar observed that porous borders remain a major concern, contributing to the proliferation of small arms and light weapons and fuelling insecurity in border communities. He highlighted the critical role of the NCS in curbing such threats.
The Theatre Commander further applauded Customs personnel deployed within OPHK for their professionalism and contributions to the Joint Task Force’s mandate, reaffirming OPHK’s commitment to sustained collaboration.
The visit concluded with the signing of the visitors’ register and exchange of souvenirs, symbolising strengthened ties between both security institutions.
