The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical, operational and intelligence assets to Kaiama Local Government Area following a violent attack that left no fewer than 75 people dead
In a statement issued on Wednesday, February 5, 2026, and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Nigeria Police Force condemned the incident, which occurred on Tuesday, February 3, describing it as a tragic and heinous act.
The IGP expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, as well as the government and people of Kwara State.
Reaffirming the Force’s commitment to the protection of lives and property, Egbetokun assured residents that all necessary measures are being taken to restore calm and prevent further violence in Kaiama and surrounding communities.
According to the statement, the security deployment is aimed at strengthening police presence in the affected areas, while an intensive manhunt has been launched to track down the perpetrators and all those linked to the attack. Investigations are ongoing, with all available resources mobilised to ensure those responsible are identified, apprehended and brought to justice.
The Police also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information through the nearest police stations or established communication channels.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its unwavering commitment to maintaining peace, law and order across the country.
