Minister of State for National Defence Presides Over Promotion Ceremony for FAN and Gendarmerie Officers

The Minister of State, Minister of National Defence, Army General Salifou Mody, on January 5, 2025, presided over the promotion ceremony of four officers of the Nigerien Armed Forces (FAN) and the National Gendarmerie.

The ceremony, now a tradition within the Ministry of National Defence, was attended by the Secretary General of the Ministry, Division General Sani Kache; the Deputy Secretary General, Brigadier General Mamane Souley; as well as advisers, directors, heads of services, and both civilian and military personnel.

The officers were promoted under the normal advancement exercise for the year 2026, with effect from January 1, 2026. Two officers of the Nigerien Armed Forces were elevated to the rank of Major Colonel, one National Gendarmerie officer was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, while another attained the rank of Squadron Chief.

Congratulating the newly promoted officers, Army General Salifou Mody described the advancement as a defining moment in a military career. He urged the beneficiaries to live up to the responsibilities of their new ranks by upholding discipline and strict respect for military regulations, in the interest of the armed forces and the Republic of Niger.

The Minister also used the occasion to extend his best wishes for the year 2026 to all personnel of the Ministry of National Defence. He noted that the period was appropriate for reflecting on the past year, drawing lessons, and strengthening efforts to improve performance.

According to him, the Ministry recorded a very satisfactory performance over the past 12 months, made possible by the commitment and collaboration of all personnel. He wished civilian and military staff good health, happiness, and success in the execution of ongoing and future projects.

“May 2026 truly be a year of peace and social stability for Niger, and a year of consolidating the military capabilities of the FAN and the National Gendarmerie,” the Minister said.

He concluded by commending and thanking security and support personnel, directors, and their collaborators for their dedication and passion, stressing that their core mission remains to organize, reflect, anticipate, and effectively respond to national security challenges.
