The Enugu State Police Command has disrupted an interstate vehicle theft syndicate, arrested key suspects, and recovered two Mack trucks and a Toyota Highlander Jeep stolen from Aba, Abia State, and Lagos State.
The breakthrough followed sustained intelligence-led operations by operatives of the Command, resulting in multiple arrests and recoveries across Enugu metropolis.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, operatives attached to Emene Police Division, acting on credible information received through the Command’s Control Room, recovered two stolen Mack trucks on 22 December 2025 at about 8:00 a.m. in the Emene area of Enugu. The recovered vehicles include a yellow Mack truck conveying a 40-foot container and a white Mack truck without a registration number, both reportedly stolen earlier from Aba, Abia State.
Two suspects were arrested in connection with the theft. They are Okenwa Chinedu, 33, alleged to have conveyed the stolen trucks to Enugu, and Adaka Emmanuel, 28, who was reportedly negotiating to purchase one of the vehicles. Preliminary investigations revealed that Okenwa is a Mack truck mechanic based in Aba, while Adaka is a scrap dealer. The owners of the trucks have since identified them, as investigations continue to track other members of the syndicate.
In a related development, operatives of Uwani Police Division on 17 December 2025, at about 6:40 p.m., arrested a suspect, Emmanuel Chukwu, while attempting to sell a stolen Toyota Highlander Jeep at a car stand in Uwani, Enugu. The recovered ox-blood coloured Toyota Highlander, bearing registration number AGL 929 FX, was reportedly stolen from Isolo, Lagos State. The suspect and the vehicle have been transferred to the originating Police Division in Lagos for further investigation.
Commending the operatives for their professionalism and swift response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Enugu State. He also urged residents to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information, particularly as efforts are intensified to ensure public safety in the new year.
