The Director General of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC), Major General J.G.K. Myam (Rtd), on Tuesday, 9 December 2025, decorated 2 Brigadier Generals, 30 Colonels including Abubakar Abdullahi — former Chief of Military Public Information at the Headquarters Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), N’djamena, Republic of Chad — with their new ranks.
The ceremony, held at the NARC complex in Abuja, honoured Abdullahi’s outstanding dedication at the MNJTF and his exemplary service to the Nigerian Army.
In his remarks, the DG commended all the 32 Senior Officers decorated, which comprises 2 Brigadier Generals and 30 Colonels for their professionalism, resilience, and remarkable contributions to strategic communication in counter-terrorism operations.
He described Colonel Abdullahi as an officer whose work ethic and commitment have consistently enhanced the image and operational messaging of the Nigerian Army and the MNJTF.
The promotion of senior officers at the centre has been described as not only a moment of joy but also a period for deep reflection on service to the nation.
Speaking during the decoration ceremony, the Director General of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC), Major General J.G.K. Myam (Rtd) emphasized that elevation to a higher rank comes with renewed responsibility. He urged the newly promoted officers to reflect on the values and contributions that earned them the honour, adding that true reflection should inspire them to identify what more they can offer to the Nigerian Army and the country. According to him, their elevation is a clear testament to the confidence the Chief of Army Staff and the Army Council have in their abilities
Addressing the officers, who are also participants of the Leadership and Strategic Studies Course at the centre, he noted that their promotion should serve as an added motivation for excellence. He explained that wearing new red badges symbolizes higher expectations and greater clarity in leadership responsibilities. He further stated that the centre will continue to challenge and stretch them intellectually, urging the officers to prepare for an intensive period of study and professional development under his guidance.
He congratulated the newly decorated officers, their families, and their communities for the well-deserved accomplishment. The official commended their dedication to duty and expressed confidence that they will justify the trust reposed in them. He reaffirmed the centre’s commitment to supporting their growth and wished them success as they take on greater roles in service to the nation. He concluded by offering his goodwill, saying, “Well done, and God bless you.”
Brigadier General Y. Ibrahim expressed profound appreciation and reflection as he delivered the vote of thanks at the decoration of 32 Senior officers. He described the ceremony as a moment of joy and privilege, noting that gatherings of such significance offer an opportunity for officers to reaffirm their commitment to service and professionalism. He also acknowledged the presence of senior officials, including the Director of Research, Professor Mimiko, under whose protocol he stood.
Recalling a past decoration ceremony, Brig Gen Ibrahim said the elder statesman had offered a piece of timeless advice to newly promoted officers: maintain your focus. He noted that the message remained relevant for officers stepping into higher responsibilities.
Brig Gen Ibrahim emphasized that mentorship, discipline, and consistency remain central to effective military leadership. He urged officers to continue embracing these values as they advance in rank and duty. The vote of thanks concluded with his reaffirmation of loyalty to the service and appreciation to all stakeholders who contributed to the success of the event.
Born in Kaduna, Colonel Abdullahi holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication (Second Class Upper) from Bayero University, Kano. Commissioned as a Lieutenant into the Directorate of Army Public Relations, he has undergone several specialised courses.
Over a distinguished 19-year career in military public relations, Colonel Abdullahi has served in key appointments such as Coordinator, Joint Media Campaign Centre, Operation Delta Safe; Public Relations Officer, Nigerian Defence Academy; Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 82 Division; Media Information Officer, Operation Hadin Kai; Chief of Staff, Directorate of Public Relations; and most recently, Chief of Military Public Information at MNJTF Headquarters, N’djamena. He is also an Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Lagos Chapter.
The decoration ceremony was graced by dignitaries, including former Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Sani Usman Kukasheka (Rtd), mni; senior officers serving and retired; as well as family members, friends and well-wishers, who gathered to celebrate the newly promoted Colonel's milestone achievement.
