INEC Disowns Fake Letter on Alleged Postponement of Ekiti PDP Congress, Primary

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has distanced itself from a letter circulating on social media alleging that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had postponed its Ekiti State congress and governorship primary.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs. Victoria Eta-Messi, the Commission clarified that the document — purportedly dated November 10, 2025 — did not emanate from the office of the Secretary to the Commission or any authorised INEC communication channel.

According to INEC, preliminary investigations revealed that the signature of the Secretary to the Commission was forged by individuals seeking to mislead the public. The Commission described the document as entirely fake and urged political parties, the media, and the general public to disregard it.

INEC condemned the act as a serious electoral offence, noting that the circulation of such false information was a deliberate attempt to sow confusion in the political environment. It appealed to those behind the “futile, criminal, and disruptive activities” to desist in the interest of electoral integrity and national peace.

The Commission also disclosed that it is working closely with security agencies to investigate the incident and ensure the culprits are tracked, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
