According to the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, operatives attached to the Katsina State Command intercepted the suspects at about 4:35 a.m. on Monday, September 1, along the ngawa–Karkarku village road.

The suspects, identified as Abdussalam Muhammed (25) and Aminu Mamman (23), both residents of Baure village in Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State, were apprehended following credible intelligence and a swift tactical response from the police team.

Upon searching their operational vehicle, a blue Volkswagen Golf with registration number RSH-528 BV, police recovered a cache of weapons concealed inside. The exhibits included:

One (1) General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG)

1,063 rounds of 7.62x39mm AK-47 ammunition

Preliminary investigations revealed that the arms were being transported from Hadejia, Jigawa State, to Safana LGA in Katsina State for distribution to criminal elements in the area.

The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue to trace the source, destination network, and possible affiliations of the arms.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, commended the gallantry of the operatives and urged them to sustain the momentum. He reiterated the Force’s commitment to dismantling organized criminal networks across the country.

He further appealed to Nigerians to continue providing timely and credible information to assist the police in safeguarding lives and property.
