The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, held a solemn Special Executive Meeting at the Loyalty Hall to honour the late Brigadier General Zakari Ahmadu Saidu, its former TETFUND Desk Officer, who passed away on August 31, 2025.
The event was marked by emotional tributes from senior military officers, academics, and family members, reflecting the late officer’s legacy of service, integrity, and dedication.
In his remarks, NDA Commandant Major General AK Ibrahim, OFR, described Brig Gen Saidu as “a problem solver, courageous and professional soldier,” pledging the Academy’s continued support to his family. He also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen OO Oluyede, NAM, for the care extended to the late officer during his illness.
Other top officers who delivered moving eulogies included Brig Gen OA Ogunleye, NDA Registrar; Commodore RT Oladejo, Director of Administration; AVM HI Alhaji, Commandant of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji; and AVM A. Abdulkadir, NDA Deputy Commandant.
From the academic community, Professor David Alahira, Dean of the NDA Postgraduate School, and Professor BJ Ajibuah, Director of Linkages and Collaboration, highlighted the late officer’s role in fostering institutional partnerships and academic growth.
Brig Gen Saidu’s family, represented by his son, Abdussamad Saidu, and sister, Aishatu Saidu, joined officers and guests as a minute’s silence was observed, followed by special prayers, a tribute video, presentation of souvenirs to the family, and a commemorative luncheon.
Brigadier General Saidu, a member of 41 Regular Course (41 RC) and a seasoned armoured officer, was remembered as a dogged, courageous, and dedicated leader whose steady hand strengthened the NDA’s mission.
The event was graced by Hajia Halima Ibrahim, Coordinator of the Nigerian Defence Academy Officers Wives Association (NDAOWA), and her entourage, alongside other dignitaries.
The gathering underscored the deep respect Brig Gen Saidu commanded across Nigeria’s academic and military circles, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and selfless service.
