Military Airstrikes Neutralise Over 20 ISWAP Fighters in Lake Chad

The Nigerian military has confirmed that scores of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters were neutralised on Saturday following precision airstrikes on an island in Lake Chad. The operation also wiped out key insurgent logistics and infrastructure.

Military sources said the strikes were the outcome of sustained reconnaissance and interdiction missions across the Gamboru–Lake Chad axis, carried out in collaboration with the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).

Coordinated under Operation Hadin Kai, the offensive targeted ISWAP’s movement corridors and facilities. Intelligence reports revealed the presence of at least 12 boats used for logistics, along with several concealed shelters believed to be weapons and IED storage sites.

One source disclosed that the first strike hit a suspected IED-making facility, forcing insurgents to scatter in disarray. A subsequent strike targeted a suspected command post or high-value site, killing several fighters.

“Over 20 insurgents were seen attempting to evacuate casualties and transport the wounded, a clear indication of the heavy losses inflicted and the significant disruption to their operational capability,” the source added.

The military reaffirmed its resolve to sustain the tempo of operations until peace and stability are fully restored to the North East.
