The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that over 4.4 million Nigerians have pre-registered online for voter registration just four weeks after the commencement of the nationwide exercise.
According to a statement released by Sam Olumekun, mni, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, the figure as of Sunday, September 14, 2025, stood at 4,445,505.
Olumekun revealed that out of this number, 2,141,294 (48.17%) are male, while 2,304,211 (51.83%) are female. He further noted that young Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 34 account for the majority, numbering 2,924,643 (65.79%), while 1,112,344 (25.02%) are students.
Completed Registrations
INEC also disclosed that as of Friday, September 12, 2025, the combined figure for completed registrations — which includes both online pre-registrations and physical (in-person) registrations — has reached 509,929.
Out of this total, 229,758 (45.06%) are male, and 280,171 (54.94%) are female.
Young people between 18 and 34 years make up 378,132 (74.15%) of the completed registrations, while 196,529 (38.54%) are students.
The Commission stated that the detailed breakdown of the registration figures by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability has been published on its official website and other platforms for public access.
FCT Ward-Level Registration
Providing an update on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Olumekun said that online pre-registration in the FCT ends today, Monday, September 15, 2025.
“For the next two weeks, physical registration will continue at designated centres. From September 29 to October 8, 2025, INEC will further decentralize the process by taking registration to all 62 wards in the FCT,” the statement read.
The Commission added that the addresses of all designated registration centres have been uploaded to its website and social media channels.
INEC urged eligible Nigerians, particularly youths and first-time voters, to take advantage of the exercise to register and participate actively in the electoral process.
