Breaking: D'Tigress Players Receive $100,000, 1-Flat and OON Each, Coaches Get $50,000 Each

The Federal Government of Nigeria have hosted the Victorious D'Tigress National Basketball Team for their historic victory at the 2025 FIFA Women's Afro Basket Tournament. 

The D'Tigress players were awarded $100,000 each, along with a flat and a car, while their coaches received $50,000 each.

Representing the President, Vice President Kashim Shatema, lauded the exceptional feats of D'Tigress, saying they have demonstrated patriotism and dedication to achieving success and putting Nigeria on the global sporting scene. Once again, following the success just a week earlier by the Super Falcons.

President Bola, lifting their 7th African Championship at the 2025 FIFA Women's Afro Basket. The coach Raina Mekama-led female team won the Afro Basket finals by defeating the Malian 78-64 in a thrilling match Sunday night at the Palais des Sports de Travail in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. 

President Tinabu commended the skill, resilience, determination and teamwork that propelled the team to the 5th consecutive title and the 7th overall. He praised the team's determination to bring glory to the country despite losing the first quarter of the match. 

President Tinabu also lauded head coach Raina Mekama and her technical team for their exemplary leadership and the Nigerian Basketball Federation for their steadfast support. He says he's looking forward to receiving the victorious team and the trophy in Abidjan.

D'Tigress recently secured their fifth consecutive FIBA Women's AfroBasket title and seventh overall, defeating Mali 78-64 in the final in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. 

This victory extended their unbeaten streak in the competition to 29 straight games, a run that dates back to 2017. 

The achievement highlights Nigeria's dominance in African women's basketball and is a source of national pride, inspiring a new generation of athletes.
