Troops of Operation Lafiyan Jama’a have arrested a suspected militia member and recovered arms and ammunition during a tactical operation in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The arrest took place on the night of July 6, 2025, at approximately 9:12 p.m., along the Kafi Abu–Rakwok road. Acting on credible intelligence, the troops intercepted the suspect—identified as 40-year-old Stephen Gyang—who was allegedly lying in ambush with the intention to launch an attack on unsuspecting commuters.
Military sources confirmed that the suspect, a native of Kafi Abu in Barkin Ladi LGA, was found in possession of a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, one magazine, and 30 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition. The swift response by the troops is believed to have averted a potential tragedy.
Gyang is currently in military custody, where he is undergoing interrogation and further investigation to determine his affiliations and involvement in recent attacks in the area.
Security operatives have reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and security in Plateau State and urged the public to continue providing timely and reliable information to support ongoing operations.
This development comes amid heightened efforts by security agencies to clamp down on armed groups and restore normalcy in Plateau and other parts of North-Central Nigeria.
