In a continued effort to improve troop welfare and enhance operational efficiency, the Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, has commissioned a newly completed soldiers' transit camp at Sector 3 OPHK/MNJT located in Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony on Thursday, General Abubakar described the development as a strategic milestone in support of the ongoing counter-insurgency operations across the region.
According to Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Theatre Command OPHK, the project aligns with the welfare-driven philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff and aims to provide decent, functional, and secure accommodation for troops.
"The facility is designed to improve command and control, streamline administrative processes, and ease logistics around troop movement," General Abubakar said. "It also serves as a secure and comfortable resting point for soldiers on administrative duties or outpatient status."
He commended the Sector Commander, Brigadier General Suleiman Tilawan, for initiating and delivering the project, and urged troops to make good use of the infrastructure while maintaining its integrity.
The Theatre Commander further praised the dedication of troops on the frontlines, calling them "the real heroes of our time." He reaffirmed the military's resolve to consolidate gains in the fight against insurgency and restore peace to the North East.
Earlier in his remarks, Brigadier General Tilawan expressed gratitude to the Theatre Commander for his support and leadership, noting that the project would not have been possible without his guidance and financial backing.
Among the commissioned projects were: A Warrant Officers and Sergeants’ Transit Camp named after Maj Gen AA Nani; and A Corporals and Below Transit Camp named after Maj Gen SO Olabanji
The event concluded with a tour of the new facility and a group photograph with senior commanders, officers, and troops in attendance.
