The President of the Defense and Police Officers Wives Association, DEPOWA, Mrs. Oghogho Gwabin Musa, has called for unity and collaboration in all aspects of life, including sport.
Speaking at the Inter-house sports of DEPOWA Day care, Nursery Primary and Secondary School, Asokoro Abuja today, 7th March 2025, Mrs. Musa, wife of the Chief of Defense Staff, underscored the value of teamwork, discipline and perseverance.
She stated that sports impact valuable lessons and life lessons that extend beyond the field. The whole idea of Inter-house sports is to promote healthy competition, teamwork and sportsmanship among students.
Mrs Musa also noted other important benefits of inter-house sports competition, which teaches important life skills such as perseverance and how to work for common goals; above all, it is a day of fun for children.
"The energy and sheer talent displayed have been a joy to behold. I’ve witnessed students give their all, pushing themselves to be their best and supporting their teammates with passion and dedication.
"It’s not about winning or losing; its’s about the values that sports instill in our young people: teamwork, discipline, perseverance and fair play. I’ve seen pupils and students from different houses come together, united by their love of sports and determination to excel. I’ve seen teachers and coaches guiding and encouraging their students, helping them to reach new heights." she said
Mrs. Musa also stressed the role of sport in daily life and its impact on national unity.
"The competition is a testament to the power of sports to bring people together to build bridges and to foster a sense of community. It’s a reminder that, even in the face of competition, we can still support and uplift one another," she added
She urged pupils and students to never underestimate the importance of sports in their lives. "The lessons you learn on the field and on the track will stay with you forever. They will help you to build strong relationships, overcome obstacles and achieve goals. You all deserve a round of applause."
Mrs Musa commended the commandant and teaching and non-teaching staff for their tireless efforts to support and guide pupils and students, which make events like this possible.
"To parents, guardians and all our guests, thank you for your unwavering support all the time. Your presence here has made this sports competition a resounding success," she noted
SpyeTV News reports that there was a match past, bursting the balloon, Alphabet Game, Fill in the Basket, fill in the container, egg race, sack race, catching the bus, catching the train, silent drill display,100, 4x100 relay races and dance display.
At the end of the Inter-house sports, NAOWA was the overall winner of the competition, while POWA came in 2nd position and NAFOWA came in 3rd position.
